Whether you are thinking of giving your childs room a little makeover or youre looking to create a cozy nest for a new family member, one of the main elements you need to take into consideration is the floor. There are a few important factors that you need to think about; the floor needs to be durable, hygienic, and able to stand the test of time. Not sure what your options are? This post brings you three floors that are child friendly, and potential matches for your home.

Solid wood flooring

As the name suggests, this floor is made from 100% solid hard wood. What this means is that each board has been cut from a single piece of timber, its as close to nature as youre going to get with flooring. Not only does it look amazing, it will also add a touch of warmth to your little ones room. Solid wood is incredibly resistant to damage, which is definitely something youll be looking for when it comes to kids - lord knows they love to wreck things!

Another quality that solid wood has, is that it doesnt collect dust, which means it is perfect for people who have allergies and, in turn, makes it very hygienic. Solid wood is available in lots of different species such as oak, acacia, bamboo and walnut.

However you have to be aware that if you choose this floor it doesnt stand well the moisture. The same applies with temperature and humidity, excess levels will cause the wood to expand and contract due to fluctuations. So if your childs room is prone to damp or differing temperature levels, this should be taken into consideration.

Engineered wood flooring

Engineered wood looks similar to solid wood, the difference is that all the layers that compose this floor are synthetics except the one on the top, which is made of solid, real wood. Thanks to this you can keep the luxurious look and have a durable floor all at the same time, just at a cheaper price.

This floor has other added qualities, unlike solid wood it does stand moisture and temperature fluctuations better. This is all thanks to the way that it is constructed, it also known as being one of the more durable materials. As for styles, it works similar to solid wood, in the way that it also comes in many different species.

The only thing with engineered wood floors, is that like their solid counterpart, they can be pretty expensive. So if youre working towards a budget, this may not be the best way of utilizing your cash.

Laminate flooring

Children grow up, and so their rooms need to evolve. It is understandable then that you might want to save money for a future makeover. Luckily there are less expensive alternatives to solid and engineered wood, one of them is laminate flooring. This floor is totally man made but looks incredibly similar to wood, in fact it is capable of imitating pretty much any surface!

You might be wondering since it is an imitation, how reliable it actually is? Well, laminate flooring not only has the advantage of being much cheaper but it is very durable. This is mainly due to the fact that is made of four synthetics layers, thanks to them moisture is kept away, which makes it a very hygienic floor and thanks to which you dont need to worry about your kids playing long hours on it.

And you dont have to worry for the floor either, as it is waterproof and very easy to clean. So it is no problem if any spillages do occur, so long as theyre removed straight away. Now, we know that having a family can be time consuming in itself, which is why we would recommend laminate so highly. Its ease of maintenance and cleaning really takes a load off of the dreaded housework, leaving you more time to spend with your loved ones.
So there you have it some of the floors we think are the best for a young persons bedroom, we hope this post will help you when it comes to making the final choice!
