Have you ever had one of those weeks where you just feel so unmotivated? I don't know if it was the fact that my hubby had to work extra shifts and didn't really get a day off this last week or the fact that it took my kids four hours to clean their room, but I just had one of those weeks where I just didn't want to do anything but read my book and eat watermelon.
So when my husband got home from a 12 hour shift and looking forward to his days off, I said... Lets get out of here!
So we got up early the next morning and packed up our camping gear and headed for Bryce Canyon National Park!
Within minutes of arriving I was already feeling a little bit chipper, and we couldn't wait to get our camp set up. (And when I say "we" I mean my husband)
Have you ever met a Hoodoo? Well I have! That's what they call these funny looking rock formations.
I've been to my fare share of national parks and I would have to say... They have the Coolest hikes here that I have ever been on. Four Stars for the hiking trails.
Now before you start thinking I'm a nature girl I have to stop you. While I'm a fan of the outdoors I struggle with camping. You see... I'm a light sleeper. Light sleepers and the Wild just don't go together. And after a few nights of sleep deprivation I'm not the most charming person to be around. So I usually try to only camp for one night but I made on exception this time out of desperation to escape my life for a few days.
Observe the true outdoors-man... He gets it from his dads side.
Also, if your keen on friendly furry creatures (that your not suppose to feed) Bryce canyon is the place for you. These little guys were everywhere. My dog was going nuts.
My kids kept busy with their jr. ranger packets trying to qualify to become a Bryce Canyon Jr. Ranger. One of the requirements is that they had to promise to pick up garbage in the park if they saw it. They took this job very seriously and has taken this new practice home with them. Now they pick up any and all garbage they find on the side of the road when ever we take the dog on a walk. I'm so proud.
While the campsites at this national park are well kept and have nice facilities like hot water and flushing toilets in the bathrooms, the campsites are really close together. We camped right by a family of six, vacationing from Switzerland. While they were really nice people, there was not a lot of privacy. They were only a few feet away watching us make these Nature Chimes crafts. It was neat getting to see my kids come up with different designs for their nature chime and even my husband and I made one. When we were all done we proudly hung them on a nearby tree. The Swedish guy next door yelled over "I like it! You should open a store!" With a thumbs up.
When we got home I felt ready to tackle my life again, so I think it did the trick. There is nothing like running away with my kids and husband to renew me and help me to see the beautiful blessing already in my life.
