My Not So Secret... Free Blog Designing Resource's

6:02 AM

Most designers don't want to give out where they get all their secret resources
They view it as helping the competition. So Its a good thing I simply just like to help. I think we mom bloggers ought to help each other and lift each one another up as much as we can.

First off I must tell you that so far there hasn't been a magic blogger header, background and button generator thats also available for free, so to get the bad news out of the way, you either have to pay someone, use a generic blog design, or do it yourself.

Second, I'm not a professional this is all from my own experience. I just want to give you some great information that I wished I had known when I first started less than two years ago.

You Need A Photo Editing Program. To begin designing your own blog you need software to do it with. Here are some free full photo editing software that you can download for free online. I recommend getting Photoshop elements eventually because its a lot more main stream and you can find load of free tutorials for it.

  • http://www.paint.net/ Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows.
  • Scrapbook Flair a basic scrapbooking program that can also be used in designing blog stuff.

My Favorite Blog Designing Tutorial Sites

Free Royalty Free Photo Images Sites You still need to read the terms of use on these but most of these images can be used for blog design and long as you are not creating a licenced logo with them and give proper credit at the end of your blog.

  • Stock.exchng You'll find a large variety here. Also has some fantastic links to some great photoshop tutorials.
  • Morgue File Not as large of a selection but between the two sites here you should find what your looking for.
  • Buisness Tool Chest - Wrote this super resourceful article "Where to Find Quality Images that are Free For Commercial Use" Its loaded with helpful links and information.

Free Commercial Use Digi Scrap Elements Blog designing isn't to far off from digital scrapbooking. So finding great digital scrapbooking kits, papers and elements that are available for commercial use is a great find. Here is a list of some great site where you can find some fantastic freebies.

  • CU Freebies Only a forum where designers link to their Commercial use scrapbooking freebies.
  • Digi Scrap Depot Loaded with tons of freebies. Look for CU OK. If it says PU only you shouldn't use it in your blog design with out permission from the designer.
  • Craft Crave You can also scout for commercial use images here. CraftCrave is a search, engine that finds new craft information from around the web.

Free Fonts

  • Da Font -Your one stop shop for all free fonts. You wont have to go searching all over to several sites finding what your looking for. This place has everything!

So there you go... Ive bore it all. I stand before you virtually blog naked.
If you have any questions just ask and I will do my best to help you. I put a lot of effort into this post to bring you quality and helpful information. I truly hope you find this post a resource in itself.  And feel free to bookmark it. ;)

  6. I also go to Shabby Blogs, They have cute buttons and headers. They also give you a tutorial to add pictures to your headers if you don't have a photo editing program.

  14. Did my comment get deleted completely? I would just rather know as I spent quite a lot of time on it and just to have it deleted without even a thank you (it contained a link to a blog that lists ten free alternatives to photoshop) and I wrote that GIMP is also handy.

Mind you, it may have been eaten by the google monster - but I would kinda like to know, as I won't do that again, it took ages :(
