Where Did Mothers Day Come From?4:53 AM
Do you know how Mother’s Day originated? Why it is celebrated as a national holiday? Most of you would say that President Woodrow Wilson declared the first Mother’s Day in 1914 and that is why it is celebrated nationally each year; however, you would only be partially right. Mother’s Day has a much deeper meaning than just celebrating the wonder that is MOM.
Julia Ward Howe (May 27, 1819 to October 17, 1910) was a prominent American abolitionist, social activist, and poet most famous as the author of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” In 1870, Julia wrote her Mother’s Day Proclamation (below) and organized a day encouraging mothers to rally for peace, since she believed they bore the loss of human life more harshly than anyone else.
I thought it was important to share this.
Happy Mothers Day To All You Mothers Out There. You Are Truly A Vital Part of Humanity.
